Have You Thrown In The Towel?

Have you given up? Thrown in the towel?

Well Newsweek magazine says you have in their article "The Quitter Economy." I know catchy headlines sell magazines, but this got me riled up this morning - you CAN'T QUIT!! There are families to feed and lives to live.

Of course we're not giving up. And it doesn't take much on your part to do the complete opposite:

  • Yesterday I had a lunch with a top producing real estate agent in my area. Janet, I met him via some of that "junk" advertising that Realtors don't respond to.
  • This morning I have a scheduled conference call with another local Realtor to discuss some joint marketing.
  • Contrary to the Newsweek article, mortgage brokers ARE APPROVING loans. The banks and credit unions may be choking on their limited menu of loan products but mortgage brokers are doing fine, thank you very much. In fact I've spoken to a dozen other brokers in the last two weeks who want to join our firm - yes, we're hiring (as are others). Residential home loans are being approved everyday for people who have jobs, decent credit (not perfect!), and a few thousand dollars in cash.
  • Home buyers are getting incredible deals on foreclosed homes, REO's (bank owned properties), and short sales. Coupled with low interest rates, your buying power is pretty good right now.
  • Exising home owners are refinancing into lower rates and lower monthly payments, or converting their ARMs and Option ARMs into fixed rate loans.

I don't mean to trivialize the situation of anyone who has lost a job or a home. That IS a difficult situation but you still CAN'T give up.

Have you given up?  Let's talk about it and turn it around for you.

I agree, when the going gets tough.....the tough get going!  One of my favorits quips. Stay positive and hopeful it will turn around.  I'm so tired of the doom and gloom, there is lots to be thankful for each day.

We are blessed here in America.  This too shall pass.

How uplifting! I love your post and the positive spin on the mortgage business. Very timely since I am getting all dressed up to attend our company "2009 Kickoff" event. It is huge...RPM has 500 brokers and it will be a fancy lunch, speeches, awards, and a whole bunch of rah-rah!

Think of me today! I'll be drinking wine for lunch (something I never do) wearing high heels (something I never do) and feeling upbeat (something I am doing more and more of lately!!!!)

Pat - you are correct. We ARE blessed in America.  If anyone questions that, just take a trip overseas.  Not that the rest of the world is bad, but our abundance is pretty significant!

Janet - funny!  RPM must have postponed their '09 Kickoff event so their brokers could attend OUR '09 Kickoff in Fairfield last week!  Just kidding!  We can have a little friendly rivalry here, can't we?  I'm sure you and I have many common acquaintances - I spent the first 15 years of my mortgage career in Sacramento with clients throughout N. Cal.

Heck no I'm not giving up!  I love this business and there is nothing I'd rather do.  We are in interesting times but there are some great opportunities out there.

Not giving up, but it really saddens me to hear about the family murder-suicides across the country because people are giving up...and taking their family with them.  We need to continue to pray and keep the faith.  These are trying times, but we WILL get through them, and learn from them.  We will all save like we've never saved before, love like we've never loved before, and hopefully live like we've never lived before so that we can GIVE like we've never given before.

Jessica - you can't possible be blue while living and working in Santa Cruz!!!  I learned to surf there and honeymooned at The Fantasy Inn on the cliff.  I supposed it's still  there?

Tamara - I LOVE your words.  You inspire me!

Marie - YOU are the best!!

Houses are not cheap and not every person is able to buy it. Nevertheless, loans was invented to support people in such kind of situations.
